Location

Sound Mind & Body, your Hatteras Island House, is located on Cape Hatteras in Avon, NC seven miles north of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. It is situated on the Pamlico Sound just north of the Avon Harbor.

Sound Mind & Body is not tucked away in some cove. It has a 180° view of the Pamlico Sound. The bulkheaded yard has stairs leading directly into the Sound making it easy to take your windsurfing or kiteboarding gear out into the shallow water that has a nice, sandy bottom.

About Avon

Avon has the most restaurants and shops of any of the seven villages on Hatteras Island. It has the only movie theaters and the two of the largest grocery stores – Food Lion and Village Grocery. If you’ve ever vacationed in the Rodanthe/Waves/Salvo area and had to drive 20 miles to get groceries, you’ll really appreciate this fact!

Sound Mind & Body is less than three minutes from restaurants, surf and beach apparel shops, wine shops, a spa and gym (where Sound Mind & Body guests receive discounts), tennis courts, miniature golf and a community swimming pool.

For those interested in fishing, there are several well-appointed tackle shops within a mile of the house. The Avon Pier is a couple of minutes away and charter fishing is available where you can fish in the Gulf Stream or the Sound – whatever your pleasure. Sound Mind & Body is located in the old village of Kinnakeet, the original hub of Avon. Families have lived here for generations. The streets are quiet and it’s safe for children to ride their bikes around the neighborhood. They can even ride over to the harbor when the fishermen come in with their daily catch. Or maybe they’ll hear one of the village elders still speaking in the Old English accent.
