About Hatteras
It used to be that if you spoke with any local for more than five minutes, you would be asked “Do you fish?” If your answer was “no,” you would be quietly dismissed. If you didn’t have racks on your vehicle to hold fishing poles and a cooler, then you would be viewed with grave apprehension.
But things have changed a bit. Coming to Hatteras to fish is still one of the top reasons to visit, but now people also show up with surfboards, windsurfing gear and, most recently, kiteboarding equipment. Cape Hatteras is one of the windiest spots in the U.S. The Pamlico Sound with its shallow waters and sandy bottom is the perfect place to learn one of the windsports because, in most places on the Sound, if you fall off your board, you can stand up with your feet firmly planted on the bottom.
Sound Mind & Body is fully equipped to meet the needs of fishing enthusiasts, windsurfers and kiteboarders. It features lockable storage with built-in racks to hold your boards and high enough to leave your windsurfing sails completely rigged while they dry off overnight. For adventuresome nature lovers, there is a two-person kayak to use in exploring the many channels and nooks of the Pamlico Sound.
